The proposed 2026 pornography ban legislation has crept up on many people, but if you've been keeping an eye on British politics in regard to the adult industry. This will be of no surprise.

I will briefly surmise the issues for you below.

Who is behind the act?

This is particularly important as it spells out what is actually being done and by who in your name:.

Baroness Burtin is a UK-based Conservative politician who list on their current declaration of financial interests a research donation from CARE UK.

She finally worked at the think tank The Atlantic bridge research and educational team

“an educational charity founded in 1997 with Margaret Thatcher as its president to promote Atlanticism, an ideology of cooperation between the United Kingdom and the United States regarding political, economic, and defence issues.” (Wikipedia)

Christian Action Research and Education UK are a listed charity with a declared income of around 2.3 million pounds at the end of the financial year 2025.(Gov.uk)

This charity's core purposes: Advises MPs and peers in the UK Parliament on social and ethical issues, including online safety, pornography regulation (such as the Online Safety Act and Digital Economy Act), assisted dying, human trafficking, and gambling.

They recently produced "Faith and Flag: A guide to Christian nationalism". A live resource on their website.

End Violence Against Women Coalition is a private limited company with a declared income of £783,586 at the end of the financial year 2025.

Their company has 9 employees and 10 trustees. Some employees earn £60,000 - £80,000 a year.

Now part of National Taskforce for Tackling Misogyny, chaired by the Minister for Women and Equalities, Bridget Phillipson MP, with over £16 earmarked for prevention of VAWG and intervention programmes.(openaccess.gov.org)

Why does who is behind the act matter?

The American FOSTA SESTA Act has long impacted the industry and led to the loss of many payment platforms and extremely stringent restrictions in the guise of anti-trafficking legislation.

This has not only restricted the rights and financial abilities of sex workers, but it has earned millions of pounds of funding for similar quangos charities and other funded organisations.

It also offers the members of those organisations and immense amount of political power and the ability to sway legislation. This has been an integral part of the rise of the far right / christofascist movement in the USA.

I do not suggest via this article that the sole purpose of any person mentioned is to benefit financially from participation in these matters and merely wish to show the correlation between similar actions of listed charities, quangos and companies in the US and the resulting laws and restrictions for the adult industry there.

In a separate point, censorship has often been an indicator of rising fascism in a country. The ability to enforce a law with no basis in fact or research is a key tenement of fascism and a step towards the disempowerment of the nation.

Fascism at its core is essentially a movement to empower a small amount of people for a short amount of time at the cost of the majority of people for a very long time. It relies on nostalgic and often religious notions that a better time and morality once existed that we need to regain. This golden age of morality has never existed.
